Mads was born in 1976 in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has a BA in comparative literature and rhetoric from Copenhagen University. He graduated as Director from the Danish film school “Super16” in 2008.
Mads’ first film school project the short film ”Mum” (2006) was selected for the 63. Venice Film Festival in the official program “Corto Cortissimo” 2006, and his second film school project “Dennis” (2007) premiered in the competition program for short films at Sundance Film Festival 2008. “Dennis” later won a handful of prices including the main price at Melbourne Film Festival (City of Melbourne Grand Prix, Best Short Film). The film was also selected for the Sundance Film Festival “Art house project” witch took it on a tour around the united states, and the Worldwide Short Film Festivals “Canadian tour” witch took it all around Canada. The film was a big viral hit having more than 5 million views on YouTube. Mads’ last film school project “Cathrine” (2008) won the Danish Film Academy’s “Robert” Price for the best short fiction film of the year, and had its world premiere in the “Generation” competition at the Berlin International Film Festival 2009. “Cathrine” was also selected for New Directors/New Films at MoMa and The Film Society of Lincoln Center in 2009.
After finishing film school Mads made his first feature “Teddy Bear” (2012) The film premiered at Sundance film festival in 2012 where Mads won the “Best Director” award in the “World Cinema Dramatic Competition”. The film was nominated for the European Film Academy’s “European Discovery” Award and was a big festival hit around the world winning a dozen of awards. It was sold for theatrical release to most of the world.
“The Model” is Mads’ second feature having its world premiere in the beginning of 2016. It stars the first time actor and acclaimed fashion model Maria Palm in the main part along side British actor Ed Skrein (Game of thrones, Deadpool, Transporter) Produced by Jonas Bagger for Zentropa production.
